The South Coast Register has reported the great success of our project to lift the building (or remove the ground) to get the hall safely above damp and termite attack.
We have financed this by community donations to inscribed pavers... see the photo below this story.
We will be putting in another paver order at the beginning of December 2008... you can still be part of this.
The story so far:
Chris Senior and his hardworking team of Tom Law, Damian Smith, Bill Stewart and Cliff Weeks have been doing a tremendous job with major conservation work essential for the long term preservation of Tomerong School of Arts.
The concrete area around the front of the hall had to be removed and the ground level lowered to allow ventilation under the hall and to send water away from the building. Following this work the front section of the hall had to be repaved with a new retaining wall and new garden. Tonnes of soil was then removed from under the hall to allow airflow - this had to been done mainly by hand and was backbreaking work.
Because of the generosity of Chris and his team working entirely voluntarily we were able to fund this major project by selling pavers with people's names engraved into them. The pavers have been placed in the forecourt area. This has been a very successful project both financially and historically, supported by Tomerong residents both old and new. A unique and lasting record of their support and our community's warmth.
Listed on the left are the names which appear on the pavers at 1 August 2008.
We continue to get applications for pavers and will be putting in another order at the beginning of December 2008 for possible Christmas presents.
For individuals or families the cost is $40 per paver. For businesses who wish to support the cost is $60 per paver -
A form is available Tomerong Post Office or download here and get it to us: set out precisely what you want on your paver.
